HFN Nursing Agency’s Human Touch

Did you know that a warm touch can calm cardiovascular stress?  It stimulates the body's vagus nerves - the main nerves of your parasympathetic nervous system, invoking a compassionate care response.  A simple touch can trigger a release of oxytocin - "the love hormone."

Since the Covid-19 pandemic people have become hesitant to hug friends and family members, yet it is a vital part of our emotional and psychological wellbeing.  A gentle touch can be reassuring for someone in distress; show empathy; be a buffer to the effect of stress and accelerate recovery from stress and even help to lessen symptoms from infection.

With so many of HFN’s patients living alone, we have definitely seen what effect a caring nature accompanied by a gentle warm touch can be.  Giving emotional support, care, and encouragement to still remain active and independent improves patients’ quality of live exponentially.  They feel nurtured and encouraged to remain in the comfort of their own homes.

When loved ones can't be close, our Caregivers act as intermediaries. They help with the physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of the patient.  Sometimes all someone needs is a gentle touch or a hug to alleviate the effects of loneliness.  HFN Nursing Agency have the Nursing staff and Carers for when patients need that little something extra.

At HFN Nursing Agency we encourage our patients to do as many activities for themselves as possible, whether they are frail, suffer from Dementia, are terminally ill, or are in post-op recovery.  We believe that the Carer’s role is to encourage patients to remain as independent as they are able to.  This helps to speed up the recovery process (where possible) and this in turn leads to happier and healthier patients.
